Job Description

Houston High School seeks an experienced, enthusiastic physical education teacher for a fall 2024 opening. The main duties of this job include instruction of weighlifting and body conditioning; coaching opportunities are also be available.   

The candidate must be knowledgeable in physical education (PE degree preferred), successful in classroom management, well organized, energetic, flexible, and open to constructive feedback. Work within a supportive, and team environment.  The independent school environment calls for frequent teacher/parent communication as well as support of extracurricular school activities and overall program goals.   Although this is a high school position, the district seeks applicants to work with the middle school coaching staff to influence continuity and program development from middle school to high school. 

Pay/Stipend/Benefits

Salary stipend is contingent on years of experience.  The Houston R-1 School District offers a fully paid health insurance plan (with full-time teaching position) along with additional benefits.

Houston High School, home of the Tigers, is located in Texas County Missouri and sits within the heart of the Ozarks in South Central Missouri.  The school is part of the South Central Association Conference along with seven other schools.  Excellent community support is evident in the recent passage of a bond issue which allowed for the construction of a 6.5 million dollar gymnasium complex, which opened in September 2021.  Local booster organizations strongly support our athletic programs.  Houston is a thriving community located on US Highway 63.
